GLENORCHY

Glenorchy is in the northern suburban area of Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania. The area has the largest proportion of Indigenous people in Hobart. The Congress ministry centre, Leprena, is named after a local word meaning "a place of shelter," or "a home."

Key Features and Activities

  • Weekly services on Sunday mornings of about 25 Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.
  • Occasional services outdoors at sites important to the community.
  • Other ministry activities include visiting Risdon prison, gardening & landscaping projects, conducting funerals, visiting families and sharing in reconciliation groups
  • The minister travels across the state including the Bass Strait Islands keeping in touch with community organizations and people.
