Support an appeal of the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress by providing a gift that will help close the massive health and education gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.
Congress Youth Leadership Program
Non-formal training within community
Your support will provide immediate help to enable practical workshops that are designed to support leaders and parents already working with Indigenous youth – particularly those at risk. It will do so by equipping them with fresh ideas on programming, upgrading and learning new skills to improve outcomes. The aim is to offer two or three of these two day workshops per year on the ground within Indigenous communities.
Formal Youth Worker Training
Your support will provide urgently needed resources for youth workers undertaking a new nationally accredited course: Youth Worker Training (incorporating Certificate III in Community Services Work) offered by Congress’s Yalga-binbi Institute for Community Development. There is a pressing need for certified training for Indigenous youth leaders who can undertake proactive youth worker roles with professional competence. At this point in time there are desperately few equipped with the relevant skills to meet this need. For further information on the course please visit http://www.yalgabinbi.com.au/course_cs.html
Indigenous Christian Liturgy Development
The Uniting Church has ‘Uniting in Worship 2’ as the authorised source of liturgies. The UAICC affirms the needs of its members for an alternative collection of culturally appropriate resources to best support its ministries.
The UAICC has been holding special Forums to discuss and develop the content of material appropriate for the cultural and linguistic diversity of its ministries across Australia. The products of these conversations will provide a unique Australian Indigenous guide for the conduct of the sacraments, funerals and other liturgies.
Your support will enable the editing, printing, publishing and distribution of this urgently needed material arising from these Forums.
